EF FACTOR Film Goes Far

The EF-FACTOR competition was added to the Reel Earth Film Festival programme for the first time this year. Targeting school students living within the Horizons Regional Council area, it’s goal was to engage young people with the environment through film.

The EF-FACTOR was a great success at the time, with quality entries from children of all ages. And the success continues for one winning EF FACTOR filmmaker, Sarah Ridsdale, whose film, Cows and Cleaner Dairying has gone on to be included in a national tour of films by MWH, one of Reel Earth’s sponsors. Recently also, Sarah’s film was shown at a meeting of Manawatu District Councillors.

Sarah, who is home schooled, spent a week making her claymation film, featuring a farmer with things to learn about how to be more environmentally aware, and a very clever cow. The EF FACTOR jury, made up from representatives of the competition sponsors, Horizons Regional Council, Massey University and Telecom NZ, were impressed with the humour and quality of storytelling, as well as the gorgeous claymation figures.

There was a special screening of the EF FACTOR films at Te Manawa as part of the REEL EARTH festival in May this year. You can find most of the films on our website, with the winners, including Sarah’s film Cows and Cleaner Dairying, available for viewing here.

Read more about Sarah’s adventures with her film in a recent article in the Feilding Herald.

The EF-FACTOR competition will be held again in 2013.
